Christmas Calendars

{Click here for an updated post with all the downloads!}

The children made these adorable calendars as gifts to their parents. I have done these every year and absolutely love them. I've been lucky enough to have either my ex-spouse or a friend come and help me make them, so we don't take away too much class time. The kids had a great time making them and were so excited to give them to their parents!

Another teacher at my school just saw a calendar like this at her friends. We just copied those poems. I don't know the original source. Sorry!

Could you share the poems? I have made this calendar for over 15 years. Some of your poems are different than the ones I have.

I was wondering if you could share the poems? I have done these calendars for over 10 years but some of your poems and pictures are different! Thanks!

I will upload the poems and blank pages I use this weekend, along with a 2012 calendar. I have a friend come in and do it for about two full days. We have a great system down, so it goes pretty fast. Then I spend one weekend assembling them. :)

Love the calendar! We do a Kissing Hand unit, we paint the child's hand and put a heart shaped sticker in the palm. It comes out perfect with a heart right in the center. Just an added idea for the Valentine page.

I have lots of questions and if anyone knows the answers please feel free to answer them. I am making these with my girl scout troop. We have 8 girls maybe 2 more joining. I have me and one other adult helping me and we have 3 meetings set aside to do these. 2 for the paintings and one for decorating do you think this will be enough time or should I try to squeeze another meeting in to work on these? Also do you know about how long it takes the paint to dry? We have our meetings at school and I am wondering how long they need to sit before I can move them and take them home. For these do you use regular colored printer paper or do you use a heavier paper? Also for the cover is it the same or do you try to use a heavier like almost construction paper thickness? I have some questions by month so I will just start at the top. Sorry about all this I am a perfectionist and I like and to have all the knowledge I can get.
***JANUARY: Light Blue paper? Is the scarf, hat and buttons drawn on or how did you make those? Also the snow flakes are they stickers or drawn or made and cut out? If you made them and cut them out YOU ARE AWESOME!! Do you have any hints to help beginners in making snow flakes?
***FEBRUARY: Light pink paper and just draw around the hands with a red crayon to make the heart?
***MARCH: Mint green color paper? the little sham rocks stickers or drawn on?
***APRIL:Light Pink paper? is the face drawn on or is it a heart sticker with the rest drawn on? the carrots cut out orange triangles with the top drawn on or is it a sticker?
***MAY:White paper?
***JUNE:Light blue paper?
***JULY: White paper? How did you get the stars on the hands? Also is the little hearts all around the page a stamp?
***AUGUST: ROYAL BLUE PAPER? Also is the missing part of paint right behind the face on purpose or was that just how it turned out? If you did it on purpose how did you get it to work out that way?
***SEPTEMBER:Yellow paper? did you use Leaf stickers all over or are they drawn on?
***OCTOBER: Light purple paper? How did you do the eyes?
***NOVEMBER:White paper?
***DECEMBER: Red paper? What did you use for the little ornaments? Is the star just cut out of yellow paper and glued on?
ALSO WHEN YOU GLUED STUFF ON, what did you feel worked the best glue stick, elmers liquid glue, double sided tape? and what lasts the longest? Sorry for all the questions just trying to pick your very experienced brain.
THANK YOU and thank you to anyone else who reads my questions and has answers and answers them.

I give these out as Christmas presents. You can buy binding at Staples. If you only have a couple, they will do it for you, too. Or any copy type store.

Kelly - I totally understand being a perfectionist. I’m the same way. :) How long are your meetings? I might try to squeeze in one more meeting for painting. I’m not sure how long it takes the paint to dry. Depends on what paint you use. Ours were dry enough to decorate in a few hours. I use cardstock for all of it. Regular paper is too flimsy, especially when painted.

January – light blue paper, scarf is cut up fabric, hat is black construction paper, buttons are real buttons glued on, snowflakes are cut out from a puncher, but I’ve also used stickers before.

February – light pink paper, I used red glitter glue to draw around the heart.

March – light green paper (walmart sells a pack of cardstock that has light green, pink, blue, and purple), shamrocks are stickers

April – light pink paper, heart sticker for a nose, construction paper for the carrots, everything else is drawn.

May – white paper

June – light blue paper

July – white paper, I have a puncher that cuts out stars, then they are glued on. Once I was lucky enough to find stickers. Yep, a stamp was used for the patriotic hearts.

August – bright blue paper, I think the missing part was just how it worked out. :)

September – yellow paper, leaf stickers/stamps

October – light purple paper, the eyes are reinforcements

November – white paper

December – red paper, star is construction paper, glitter glue for the ornaments

Liquid glue works well for construction paper, but I used a hot glue gun for buttons, scarf, etc. Hope this helps! Feel free to email me for a quicker response. janaevanorman@gmail.com

Is there a copy of the poems listed some place? I am interested in doing this with my first graders soon. Thanks for your help.

Are there poems that go with each month? If so, where would I find these? This is a very CUTE project that I would love to do with my first graders. :)

Love this idea! Where did you buy the blank calendars? I can't seem to find one.

Unknown said...

I know someone already asked this and I didn't see the answer to it, but how do you put the calendar page on the back of the handprint page? I'm assuming you used cardstock for the calendar pages as well? Oh one more question, did you buy the binding cones that come with the plastic cover AND back cover? Sorry for all these questions that you probably already answered a million times!

Could you please email me the verses you used for the months! I'm doing a Christmas project with a group of kids and really want to do these!! Thanks. It's meg_9101@yahoo.com
