I wanted to share with you a wonderful management tool I've been using with one of my extra special kiddos! He has a bit of a focusing problem and has a hard time completing assignments in class. He's a really smart boy, but lacks the focus. I was talking to one of my co-workers (his old Speech Teacher) about him, and we came up with this idea.
He absolutely loves her, so we decided he can earn some free time with her. For each assignment he completes, he gets to put one piece of the puzzle up. Once the puzzle is complete (only four pieces to start out with) he gets to play a game with her for 5-10 minutes. Luckily, she has some time in the day to help with this, but you could use this with any type of reward: computer time, sit by a friend, sit in the teacher's chair, shoes off, game time in the classroom, etc. Free time with the Speech Teacher seems to work for him. He's completed more assignments in the past few weeks than he has all year! (almost)
Hurray!
