P.E.

As I'm catching up on posts, here are some random P.E. videos.  Enjoy!

Yoga and a Lucky Party!

Today we had a Lucky Party {for good behavior} and got to eat lunch in our classroom!

We also had a special P.E. with a yoga specialist.
It was VERY entertaining to watch these little darlings attempt those moves.

Happy Monday!

Cup Stacking

We did cup stacking the last two weeks in PE.  The kids had a great time!  I am impressed by how fast some of them are.  Faster than I am!  :)

we've got rhythm, yes we do

{update...due to copyrights, I cannot give out the ddr powerpoints.  sorry!}

we've got rhythm, how about you???

This week in PE Miss Anderson is teaching about rhythm. She started off having them repeat simple rhythmic patterns with sticks.

Then the REAL fun began.
Dance Dance Revolution... PE style!!!
She used homemade mats and showed the class how to dance along with a PowerPoint. It started off REALLY slow, but then got too fast for me to keep up! Some of these little children have some rather impressive moves! Of course there were a few who decided they would rather make up their own moves, rather than follow along. Ha. As long as they had fun, right?

A few notes about the videos:
-I didn't realize holding the camera sideways would make it stay like this. I don't know how to rotate it, so sorry if you strain your neck. :)
-The first video's a little weird, because I had to move around the few who weren't allowed to be filmed. After this one, I just had them go to the other side of the gym while I filmed, then switched.
-As I've said before, if you are concerned about this video being on YouTube, I made it so it is unlisted - people can only view the video from this blog. It is not 100% public. People can't search for it and find it. Hope this is okay. Please contact me if you have a question/concern.
-Miss Anderson took a video of me dancing, but I refuse to post it. Ha! I am the least coordinated person on the planet. :)

This is by far our class' favorite song. It was so funny to watch them dance and sing along with JB. One boy shouted out a few times, "It's Justin Bieber, This is Justin Bieber". It was funny. I had to remind a couple of children that they were supposed to dance, not just stand there and sing. :)

Random

We finished up our measurement unit by talking about weight. We had six containers filled with mystery items. The kids first predicted the correct order from lightest to heaviest. Several of them got to come up, examine two containers, and decide which one was heavier. Then we weighed each container and compared its weight to pennies. The lightest object weighed as much as five pennies, and the heaviest was about 49 pennies (I think). They actually predicted the order exactly right! Smarties! When the weighing was finished, they guess what was inside each container. They guessed some right, but most of them were too tricky!

It's finally February... bring on the hearts! :)

We've had two inside recess days this week so far. I (and most of the kids) strongly dislike these days... Usually the morning is calm and fine, but by the afternoon we all just have a serious case of cabin fever. Luckily, I happen to be best friends with our PE teacher, so she kindly played a few tag games with us in the gym during recess. They played "toilet tag" and "color tag". For toilet tag, there are three taggers. When you get tagged you sit down like a toilet with your arm out (see pictures below). To be freed, someone has to "flush" you by pushing your arm down. Sounds weird, but the kids LOVE it. For color tag, there are three taggers again that start in the middle of the room. The rest of the kids are on one wall. Then the teacher calls out a color. If you are wearing that color you try and run across the gym without being tagged.

Look at that pose... can you tell she's a cheerleader??? :)

Tomorrow will most likely be an inside recess day again. In order to keep my sanity, I'm going to have to incorporate more learning games/movement activities. What other fun ideas/activities do you teachers do on inside recess days?

Our school got a grant to serve a fruit/vegetable as an afternoon snack everyday. They have had a lot of unique foods this year. Today was by far the strangest. They served jicama. I'm not going to lie, I did not enjoy it. It was so weird. It tasted like a lot of different things. Not my favorite... but the kids love all these new foods. They absolutely love them.

We've had a few really weird things, or at least foods I wouldn't serve raw as a snack. In my opinion, the two yuckiest were raw potatoes and lemon wedges. The two yummiest were pears and blackberries!

Here's hoping tomorrow is either cold enough to stay home or warm enough to go outside for recess!!

Parachutes

It's that day of the week again, and I couldn't resist taking pictures/poor quality videos of today's fun with parachutes! The video is of a game called "Sharks". They all sit around the parachute with their legs under. Three children are underneath and pull a child under. Then the sharks trade places with the child they pulled under. They LOVED this game!
Enjoy!

Getting ready for Sharks

Parents, if you are concerned about this video being on YouTube, I made it so it is unlisted - people can only view the video from this blog. It is not 100% public. People can't search for it and find it. I literally tried for two hours to upload it just from my computer to blogger, but it would not work. Hope this is okay. Please contact me if you have a question/concern.

Fun in P.E.

We get to go to P.E. with the lovely Miss Anderson on Mondays, so be sure your child wears appropriate footwear! She is literally the best P.E. teacher in all the land (and my very best friend outside of school). I love to watch and join in on their fun activities. Today was stations - balancing peacock feathers, juggling scarfs, and hula hoops.

I am not good at hula hooping. :)
