Dr. Seuss

I love March! There are so many fun things to do during this month. I always start the month out with a Dr. Seuss inspired reading competition. Usually we compete between all the first grade classes, but this year it is just a class contest. We are trying to meet our goal of reading 8,000 minutes in March. I drew a Sneetch to put in the hall to keep track of our progress. Each child gets to put one star on it for every 20 minutes of reading. If we make our goal, we will have a class party!

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd with a few fun activities. I made up a packet of activities from Seussville. The class was able to work on these when they had free time throughout the day.

We made our own hats and turned ourselves into the Cat in the Hat. I was thrilled to find Rachelle's Dr. Seuss Unit. We'll be doing a lot of those activities throughout the month, but my favorite was the art activity. I was trying to think of an activity to do using a picture of each child for their scrapbooks. I love the way these turned out.

We ended the day with a readathon of Dr. Seuss books. The children were allowed to bring pillows, blankets, and Dr. Seuss books. They read while I made green eggs and ham. It was so much fun!

My camera died halfway through the day. I had to borrow our school's really not good camera for some of these pictures. Hence the bad quality.

I have enjoyed looking all through your blog this morning. Great ideas! I especially love the cute things you do with your kids pictures. I was wondering if you would mind emailing me your patterns for: Seuss hat/bow, the snowsuits and the pumpkin. Can't wait to use these next year. Congrats on the Masters and thanks so much for sharing!
