GOO!

To help learn all the different spellings for the oo sound, we made goo! We had a parent helper, and it was really nice to have three adults move the process along. It was quick, easy, and relatively clean! After we made the goo, I had them spell different oo words with their goo. It was a great time. One little boy couldn't stop screaming out, "It's goo! It really is goo!!". It was so funny. :)

Afterwards, they completed a Goo Monster word sort. It was a lot of fun!

Hi,
I just love this! Your lesson is great, and your worksheet is wonderful. I have one question, however, is it safe for the little ones to handle Borax? I would like to do this, but I am not sure..

cc, I never really thought about how safe it was. I got the idea from a veteran teacher, and I assumed it was fine. I think because it ends up being a really small amount in each cup, it should be fine. I read on another website that by the time the kids have mixed it up, the borax has gone through a chemical change, and is no longer dangerous. We were very careful with it, and made sure no one ate it or put their hands in their mouths. Most of the kids washed their hands right after, too. If you know anything else, please let me know!

Rachelle, you have a good eye... that is a Jazz shirt! He loves it. He's even missed school to go to a game. I have a few kids obsessed with them and Boise State. Two of my boys are so obsessed with Boise that they only color in blue and orange. Ha. :)
