I make these every year for my class to give to their parents for a Christmas gift. It is a lot of work, but it is SO worth it! I have been lucky enough to have a friend come in every year and help me do it. That way I don't waste too much class time. :) It takes about 2 full days to have them paint all the months. I print the poems on 2x4 labels, and then I spend a full day {Saturday or Sunday} assembling them. We wrap them at school, and then send them home. I would suggest making two for the children who have divorced/separated parents. One year I didn't, and it caused too many problems. It's way worth it to double it up! Please let me know if you have any other questions about them. Have fun! :)

How do you bind all the pages together?
Thank you so much for sharing the poems and making the calendars!
Our school has a binding machine I use to bind them together. :)
A great website for literacy resources for all grades! Please check it out. It’s not completely online yet, but will be soon!

Okay, now that I've started working on them, I have a question! How did you do the calendar pages with the actual picture pages? Did you glue the two pages together or print them on the same paper, front-to-back?
I did them on two separate pages. My first year I tried gluing or taping them together, but it didn't work. Now I just don't worry about it. I don't think it's a big deal to have them not stuck together. When they're hung up, you can't tell... :)
One more question, on the flag are the stars stickers?
Nope, I have a little star punch and we glued them on.
Thank you so much!!!

I just did these for my preschoolers - I love your version though!
Did you use cardstock or just regular printer paper?
I used cardstock. :)
We made the calendar for the grandparents for Christmas! I posted about it on my blog here http://www.pamelaandaustinmatthewsandfamily.blogspot.com/2011/12/grandparent-christmas-gift.html
if you want to check it out! Thanks for the idea and the printables!!!
I just found your blog today! Your calendar idea is amazing. I am going to share it with my friend when I get back to school. We may try this in 2012. If we have questions we will get back to you.
Thanks for sharing!
Gloria
We are making them as end of the school year presents for our parents. I teach the pre K class so we've filled the calendar in with the school calendar for when they start K in the fall. So far they are absolutely adorable.
Wowie!!! These are sooo cute! I am thinking of doing these as Mother's Day Presents for my 4th graders...do you think they are too old for it?? For the snowman, did you use their palm?? Thank you for posting...it is adorable!
The snowmen are made from the palm. I don't think 4th graders would be too old for it. I bet they would have a blast decorating them, too. :)
Hi there! Thank you so much for this amazing activity, post and all of the hard work you put into it. Is there any chance you could post 2013 calendars? I would like to do this with my kids next year.
-Jenn
Can you tell me what font you used on the calendars? I am working on these for mother's day and need to do Jan-April 2013.
Thank you!
I love this and want to make one for Christmas gifts this year! Any chance you have 2013 calendars available for download? I'll be having my 2 year old do this, so I was wondering what kind of paint you used. THANKS!!
What kind of paint did you use? Also, do you have a 2013 calendar available? Such a great idea! Thanks!
I just came across this and love the idea! I teach preschool and we could do this on some of the first days back in school. Where can I go to get the calendars for 2013?

I love, love, love, love this idea!!! Great for a Father's Day present for grandpa!!! :)
Thank you for sharing!
Will you be posting a link for 2013 calendars?
Thank you again!
If you are wanting calendars for this adorable idea just go to this website:

You can make your own calendar and save it as a word document. Then you can change it however you want!
Enjoy!
The font I used was DJ Inkers DJ Groovey.
I will post the poems soon!
Thank you so much Thinking Mama! I don't have my calendar program anymore, and was trying to figure out an easy way to make them. :) Once I make my set, I'll post them here for others to use.
When are the 2013 calendars going to be able to download? I would love to make these for Christmas gifts from my boys!
Where do you find 2012-2013 calendars?
This is amazing! Thank you so much for generously sharing!
Are you going to make one for 2013?
These are fabulous!!!
What a great idea! I'm gonna make these for Christmas gifts this year.
This is sooo cute I am going to have my nieces make one for their mom and dad for Christmas. I bought the calendar already binded at Pat Catan's which is a local craft store, but you can get them anywhere. You have to fill in the Months and dates. I am so excited to try this!! Thanks again for the idea!!!
I have a jewish student this year, do you have a poem to go with a menorah handprint? (I know how to do the handprint).
Any ideas on how we can do this without a binding machine??
i see that you use different colored card stock, but is each calendar on white paper? how do you put it together that way? do you glue the white calendar paper to the card stock of the next month? does that question make sense? i love, love, love this idea by the way. Thank you!!!
Love your calendars! I have been searching for the perfect Christmas gifts for the Grandparents/Aunts/Uncles. When I saw these, I just knew it was PERFECT!! Thank's for the wonderful idea! You are an amazing person for doing this for your entire class. It took me 2 hours to get my kids to each for 6 Months. We are making 7 calendars so I knew it would take some time. Homemade/hand made gifts are PRICELESS though!! :) Thanks again!!
Easter is in march for 2013 so what picture do you do for April?
Thanks for sharing! Love these calendars! Will you do something different for April this year because Easter falls in March?
I saw someone ask if 4th grade was too old for this and my response is NO! I did this with my 3 year old and it was exhausting and frustrating for both of us. We had to make 5 calendars, so maybe that was our problem! But she was so uncooperative that I had to threaten her with "Santa's watching" a million times. The end result is cute....but we will never do it again!
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
This is so amazing and thoughtful! May I ask you how you did the white stars in the flag page for July? I would love to do this with my toddler! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful idea.
Do you do 1 for each child if you have multiple children in the same family or do u have them just make 1 and have 2 handprints?
Do you happen to have a 2016 Calendar?
